An American Gentleman

The title is from a print and watercolour I did based on this photo I took when Austin and I were in SLC. It was the weekend we got engaged!


The story behind this was neither of us knew a Boston Terrier existed. It's a weird dog if you've never seen one haha! We thought he was a statue (like a garden gnome or something) that was with the junk beside him. He never moved! He didn't move even when I took a photo of him. Finally we advanced on him, gave up, and walked away. He moved! It scared the living crap outta us. 

So that's how it all started. 

When we found out about our kid situation, we knew we wanted a Boston Terrier to keep us company as we go through that journey because it brings good memories.

Well, lots of things change and go on and now we're on third year of marriage, moving to Wyoming and I have turned into a Carhart girl ;) 


And we're finishing our last projects --I worked on a final watercolour piece! When thinking about it, I thought I'd do a stylized portrait of us. Compositionally, it needed a third object/figure. So I put in a dog. And guess what?

We totally found a Boston breeder in Cheyenne!! It's already happening :D
 
In the meantime it's been late nights, lots of pops and avoiding doing last projects. (Me painting my nails to avoid painting a painting..... that makes sense.....)
 

Hey, whatever helps you get it done right? Austin's the same! We've been poking each other awake through late nights, side by side!






So here it is, a not too far off portrait we can hang in Wyoming!

    Baha! Thanks, no problem! Just finding excuses to say hi cause I'm excited! I'm so sorry, I had that a few weeks back... back to back like that. Stay hydrated!! I didn't and it made it so much worse. Yucky yuck yuck. We'll have fun up here, don't worry!

When Family Visits

This past weekend, we got to spend time with my lovely parents! Lance (my step-dad) and my mom came out to Rexburg to party po-dunk style with us haha! First we took them to R-Mountain which is actually a crater volcano :) Maybe you recognize it from the 4th of July adventures of Braustin? We had finals (so Austin and I look like train wrecks only getting 6 hours of sleep in the last three days...  haha!) Lance and mom were doing wonderful though, and were more energetic than us for sure!  Then we made some taffy, but what we didn't know was our candy thermometer we bought was broken in the first place. So it never rose past 150ºF despite it looking like it burned. Yeah. It ended up looking like an organ. And it also ate our black plastic spoon because it rose so high in temperature. Joyeux Noël

My Mom and Lance came out! Austin and I took it as an opportunity to cook the heck out of our kitchen for them! We got a white Christmas which was amazing. For two reasons: Mom and Lance are from California and so it was magical for them, and it could be our last white Christmas for a while! (A lot of schools are in the South.)  My mom's side of the family is very German so we celebrate Christmas Eve. We used to have minestrone soup, but everyone hated it. So... we turned to our California roots and make tortilla soup instead. As a kid, it always made sense that Christmas happened at night. All the pictures you saw of baby Jesus were at night with the star. My mom said when she was little, she just thought German kids were special haha! I made my mom and Lance some hardcase books, a snowglobe, and got them a ceramic ornament. Santa also surprised them in the morning with a stocking ;) My grandma Hofmann used to make these egg ornaments (she passed away in 19...

Sunday Eats

Finals are upon us! Wish us luck!  So a little about life lately... or you can skip to the awesome food at the bottom lol. Well, we might need that luck especially cause I kicked a stool on accident in the print lab and broke two toes all crazy like. Then proceeded in my 12 hour no-break printing frenzy standing on them dang toes.... and sick.....lol! That's what I get for not wearing my brace. Good thing we are done with Insanity! That's right, you heard us! Done with Insanity, the 9 week program :D We both are going to take our pictures soon and post them! We are doing hip hop abs for the next two weeks as finals are happening (and it's less intense on my toes) then starting Insanity all over. Yes, we are insane thank you ;) We actually were kind of freaking out because this fall, we apply to law and nursing school! We finish in April, but will hear most likely in the winter where we will head out to.  I might wait to apply until Austin chooses a scho...
