All Hail the Dinner Party

Cooking never felt so good! Austin BBQ'd some chicken quarters with an olive oil lime sauce.
I did the desserts! It's that shortbread and coconut whip cream on our recipe page. How has coconut fat not won the nobel prize already just for being awesome? I found the best brand that stays true to the coconut... they don't de-fat it. Perfect for a thick coconut cream treat. I topped it off with fresh berries! The shortbread was infused with lime zest and flavor (put the lime in the coconut am I right?) So summery. Lime says summer.

And it was so good to see an old friend of Austin's!

We also got a surprise....

Hail the size of garbanzo beans, or quarters. This guy was in our house, so a bit melted even!

Juno..... was frantic when we came home. They exploded through the window and even broke our bathroom window.

Even when we carried her to the door window, she was still not sure what to make of it:

Hail in Wyoming is just a given. They've gotten baseball sized just two years ago. When you go up to Cheyenne, everyone's cars look like wiffle balls. In fact, people dive under gas stations and bridges (we dove under a gas station) just to avoid cracked windshields and pings in the aluminum.  There were still tons of cars when we arrived home under our bridge. Our garden was covered.... it may have done us over. Our trees and lots of trees downtown got shredded. (All the leaves you see on the ground) We'll see.

My Carhartt jacket I have wanted for years came in the mail today! Dad gave me some Carhartt money for my birthday! (Thanks so much dad, it's the Sandstone Kanai Parka)  Can I say it couldn't have arrived at a better time? I mean look at that cold backyard haha! Heat wave, whatever! Come here to Laramie!

(Just kidding, it's been deathly hot here too. Lots of thunderstorm activity.)

I got my name put on it for $5 because it is such a nice coat, you have to worry about it. So excited!)

And of course you have to pair it with the wranglers and boots ;)

Welcome to Wyoming, xoxo

The Last Stretch

I am on the last little stretch before the surgery! It's amazing how in denial I can still be, thinking that I do not have anything wrong. But then you get a wake up call when your body does funky things you can't stop, and then you fall down the stairs twice. Once I popped my shoulder, and the second I popped a hip and broke my back molar coming down on my side. So I got that tooth fixed ASAP, thank the heavens it didn't damage any roots! At the dentist my mouth was opened for an extended period of time, and needles were involved. Just when you think you have this whole Dystonia thing under control.... another reminder! I got lock jaw while working as a floor nurse! My jaw had increasing pain through the week, and I revisited the dentist. Nothing wrong with my tooth. At work, it sealed shut (and not to be gross) but when you have an intense cramp like that, it causes immense pain. I do in fact throw up sometimes from the pain. Well if your mouth seals... and tons...

Snowglobes of Wonder and Joy

I made snowglobes!  I've always loved those, even as a little kid. Then I saw DIY's on Pinterest, and thought.... Why hadn't I thought of making them before?? So in a nutshell, jars, hot glue, brush christmas trees (or anything plastic-y) glitter... and then to fill the jar, distilled water, glitter and some corn syrup to thicken it! I made all of these (already had jars) for $4.00! We attempted a gingerbread house with some friends... as you can see it looks like a crackhouse.    So... I think it's best I stick with the kind of art I know haha! I made a lot of books this break, and Austin can't complain cause he's an Eng. Lit.  He's been busy cooking some more amazing meals and snacks! Those are a healthy alfredo with quinoa base, and the other are applechips! Visit our Recipe page for cooking instructions .:here:. Also, for those who don't already know after my super obnoxious facebook excitement...

Joyeux Noël

My Mom and Lance came out! Austin and I took it as an opportunity to cook the heck out of our kitchen for them! We got a white Christmas which was amazing. For two reasons: Mom and Lance are from California and so it was magical for them, and it could be our last white Christmas for a while! (A lot of schools are in the South.)  My mom's side of the family is very German so we celebrate Christmas Eve. We used to have minestrone soup, but everyone hated it. So... we turned to our California roots and make tortilla soup instead. As a kid, it always made sense that Christmas happened at night. All the pictures you saw of baby Jesus were at night with the star. My mom said when she was little, she just thought German kids were special haha! I made my mom and Lance some hardcase books, a snowglobe, and got them a ceramic ornament. Santa also surprised them in the morning with a stocking ;) My grandma Hofmann used to make these egg ornaments (she passed away in 19...
